# Newton MCP

The Newton MCP server gives any MCP-aware AI coding tool direct access to Aghanim's product documentation and to the Knowledge Base behind the dashboard. Once connected, your agent can search the docs and the API reference, search the help articles, and read a whole Knowledge Base article — all without leaving the editor.

**Endpoint:** `https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/` (streamable HTTP transport, public and read-only — no sign-in)

## Claude Code

If you're using Claude Code, the easiest path is the [one-command plugin install](https://docs.aghanim.com/ai-coding-tools/claude-plugin.md) — it bundles the MCP server, the webhook quick-start skill, and a matching slash command.

To add Newton MCP manually without the plugin, run this command in your terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http aghanim https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/
```

**Scope flags** control where the configuration is saved:

| Flag | Scope | Config location |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `--scope local` (default) | Current project, current user | `.mcp.json` in the project root (not shared) |
| `--scope project` | Current project, all team members | `.mcp.json` committed to the repo |
| `--scope user` | All projects, current user | User-level Claude Code config |

The server needs no sign-in. Run `/mcp` in Claude Code to confirm it is connected.

## Cursor

Cursor supports remote MCP servers through `mcp.json`. Use `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for a global configuration that applies to every project, or `.cursor/mcp.json` at the root of a project for a project-specific configuration.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "url": "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
    }
  }
}
```

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "url": "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
    }
  }
}
```

After saving the file:

1. Restart Cursor (or reload the MCP servers from **Settings → MCP**).
2. Open the Cursor chat and ask a question that requires Aghanim docs — for example: _"Use the aghanim MCP to find the player.verify payload"_.

## Claude Desktop

1.  Open **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Click **Add Connector** and enter the URL: `https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/`

> **NOTE:** Remote MCP servers in Claude Desktop are configured through **Settings → Connectors**, not `claude_desktop_config.json`.

## VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Create a `.vscode/mcp.json` file in your workspace:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
    }
  }
}
```

Then open the Command Palette (`Cmd+Shift+P` / `Ctrl+Shift+P`) and run **MCP: List Servers**. Start the Aghanim server.

## Windsurf

1. Open **Windsurf Settings** (`Cmd+,` on Mac) and search for **MCP**.
2. Click **View raw config** to open `mcp_config.json`.
3. Add the Aghanim server configuration:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
    }
  }
}
```

Save and restart Windsurf.

## Codex

Add the Aghanim server to `~/.codex/config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.aghanim]
url = "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
```

No `codex mcp login` step is needed — the server is public.

**Project-level configuration:** to share the configuration with your team, create a `.codex/config.toml` file in your project root with the same server block.

## Other tools

If your AI tool isn't listed above but supports MCP, connect using the streamable HTTP URL:

| Transport | URL |
| --- | --- |
| Streamable HTTP | `https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/` |

Most MCP clients accept a JSON configuration:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"
    }
  }
}
```

**If your client only supports local stdio servers**, use the [`mcp-remote`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/mcp-remote) bridge:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aghanim": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/"]
    }
  }
}
```

## Verify the connection

Once the server is wired up, ask the agent to run any of these tools — they confirm the round-trip end to end:

*   `mcp__aghanim__algolia_search_index_documentation_website` with a query like `"player.verify"` — returns matching doc pages.
* `mcp__aghanim__algolia_search_index_dashboard_help` with a query like `"refunds"` — returns matching Knowledge Base sections, each with the `kb_slug` you pass to `mcp__aghanim__get_kb_article`.

## Troubleshooting

**My client doesn't see the server.** Check that the URL in your config is exactly `https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/` and that the server name in `mcpServers` is unique (no other entry uses the same key). Restart your editor after changing the config.

**My client asks me to sign in, or fails on an authorization step.** Newton MCP is public, so there is nothing to sign in to. If your client insists on an OAuth flow, configure the server as an unauthenticated HTTP endpoint.

**I get a `403` when my agent fetches Aghanim docs.** The host `docs.aghanim.com` blocks anonymous requests. Always search through `mcp__aghanim__algolia_search_index_documentation_website` — never fetch the docs URL directly.

**Every request answers `405` or `400`.** The server accepts `POST` only, at `/` or `/mcp/`, with a JSON-RPC body. Browser-style `OPTIONS` preflights and JSON-RPC batches that include a Knowledge Base tool call are rejected.

## FAQ

### Is the legacy SSE endpoint still available?

No. The legacy SSE endpoint at `https://mcp.aghanim.com/sse` has been retired and now answers `404`. Use the streamable HTTP endpoint at `https://mcp.aghanim.com/mcp/`.

### Can I use Newton MCP in a fully automated pipeline without a human in the loop?

Yes. The server is public and read-only, so no browser login is involved and nothing has to be refreshed per machine.
