Lootbox price step-up
What's new
Lootbox settings gained a price_step_up object that raises the price of a lootbox as a player keeps opening it. It holds a steps array of 1 to 50 entries, each with a count of purchases to be priced at that step and the price to charge for them — price, price_point, price_template_id, price_template_key, prices, or reward_points_price, the same pricing fields a lootbox itself accepts.
Alongside it, progress_reset_at reports the timestamp at which a player's step-up progress resets, so the ladder starts again from the first step.
Both fields sit on lootbox_settings in the LootboxRead variant of the item union, which is a response schema — the ladder is configured in the dashboard and read back through the API.
Impact
A lootbox no longer has to have one price. Studios can charge less for a player's first few opens and more for later ones, or run the reverse, and clients can read the configured ladder to show what the next open will cost.
Changes
| Resource | Change |
|---|---|
| get_items | Added price_step_up and progress_reset_at to lootbox_settings on lootbox items |
| get_all_store_items, get_store_items, bulk_update_store_items, create_store_item, update_store_item | Added the same two fields to lootbox_settings on the embedded item |
| Components | Added the PriceStepUpSettings and PriceStepUpStep schemas |
Upgrade
- Nothing to change. Both fields are optional additions to responses, and a lootbox without a configured ladder omits them.
- If you display lootbox prices, read
price_step_up.stepsto show the price of the next open rather than assuming the lootbox's base price applies to every purchase.
